The combination of a very busy job and trying to get a novel published resulted in my never finding the time to get the flu shot. I’m paying for that now, with interest.
And I’ve discovered that when you write a novel about a bunch of people dying from a pandemic flu, actually getting it gives you a certified case of the heebie-jeebies.
While I take a day or two to recover, I’ll share with you a passage from my second novel under construction:
Jed wanted to die more than anything. A Bible verse bubbled up from his fatigued brain as his ears started to ring a high C—the high fever he thought he had finally licked had returned with a vengeance.
In those days, men will seek death and will not find it. They will long to die, but death will flee from them.
If you’re curious, the passage comes from Revelations 9:6. And no, my series of novels have nothing to do with the End Days – that’s been done, and far better than I ever could hope to do.
This has been a brutal flu season. Wash your hands, sanitize and use good old-fashioned common sense.
On a final note, I want to link to a hysterical article from The Onion: Centers for Disease Contraction Urges Americans to Suck Doorknob.
