“You’re Not Escaping Work”

I’m alive. No, I didn’t get sick, just really busy.

One reason is that what little free time I’ve had has been taken away by some updates to my novel (I’ll write about that later). The other has been because of the combined load of a full-time job working from home and being a teacher to my 7-year-old daughter and a day-care provider to my 3-year-old son.

I stumbled across this outstanding article in Bloomberg – “Three Hours Longer, the Pandemic Workday Has Obliterated Work-Life Balance” – that shows what a lot of people are going through right now. It’s a very good read, especially after I spent six hours on and off overcoming technical difficulties to send an important email for my boss. It got out just before midnight, rather than 5:30 p.m. as originally scheduled.

Don’t get me wrong – those of us who have jobs right now should be on our knees every night thanking the Lord. But being blessed with having a paycheck doesn’t mean that life is wine and roses. Or at least wine – I don’t think florists are essential businesses.
